Great work, Kaj!

I am especially pleased to see the interact conference. In addition to the urls below, which end in -2.html, there are corresponding pages that end in -1.html. With three conferences, it makes writing scripts to import the data that much more worthwhile. I see that they link to springer pages, with abstracts, which are easy to scrape for data. I'll try to get to them soon, at worst in the next few months.

The WWW conferences, being older, are less of interest, but I will look over the links you kindly provided.

I wish more people helped as much as you!

Best,

Gary

PS: Your name, Kaj, is pronounced just like the CHI in SIGCHI, yes?

Coincidentally, I just received some suggestions to make compiling easier,
so I want to integrate those and update the archive before sending you there.
I'll try to get to it this week.

Dear Ben,

You are quite right that I have not been adding books. The issue is that they tend to require much more effort per record than journal articles, which take much more effort than conference papers. But with publisher sites being as well organized as they are these days, a link to a book page should be all I need to add a record.

I just had a pleasant experience adding INTERACT conferences (2007, 2009, 2011) to hcibib.org. It was easy to import fields from springer.com.

I'm looking at a book by Guy Boy:
 	http://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-1-4471-4339-0
and I think with just the link, or equivalently, the ISBN, I should be able to add a new record.

Since I am capable of limiting springer.com offerings to items on HCI, I don't think I need to ask you to suggest some books. I'll write a script to import the information and it should not be hard for me to add 50-100 books oe more.

Limiting to HCI, I only saw two journals:
 	UAIS http://link.springer.com/journal/10209
 	Intelligent Transportation http://link.springer.com/journal/13177
The first is covered at hcibib.org, and the second is, I feel, far out of scope. If you can suggest others, I am happy to look at them.

Best,

Hello again, Ben,

The isolated work of bibliographer never ends, not even on weekends.

I have a good script for pulling in books from the Springer site.
In creating it, I wanted to give you some feedback on ways to improve it.
I found your html generally good for pulling out information,
and noted the use of schema.org markup.

1. The number of pages in a book is not noted anywhere. To get an estimate,
I am using the last page mentioned in the table of contents.

2. I found the Human-Computer Interaction Series, but only by chance.
If I browse
 	Discipline: Computer Science
 	Subdiscipline: HCI
 	Content Type: Book Series
I find four series, but not the above HCI series!
International Series on Biometrics - 6 items, outdated 2003-2006
Kluwer International Series on Computer Supported Cooperative Work - 2 items, outdated 2005
Progress in Communication Networks - 1 item, 2001, not vaguely relavant to HCI
Human-centred Systems - 15 items, but the newest is 1995
So, the identification of HCI series is badly -- no, completely -- broken.

3. Sometimes, some authors of chapters are not shown in the TOC. For example:
 	http://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-540-73078-1/page/1
See the entry for Pages 107-116. Only 4 of 5 authors are listed,
but the very next chapter shows 5 authors. In the html, there is a
hidden option to show all authors, but it does not appear. I tried IE9, Firefox 16.0.2,
and Chrome 24.0.1312.52 m.

4. It would be nice if there was an option to view the entire TOC on one page.

5. In the display of HCI Books, newest first, books for the same conference should be adjacent.
If dates do not include the month and year of a conference (or maybe they use the release date),
than sorting by year and ISBN might help.

All for now. I am up to 123 books.

Hi Chen,

I can't think of what Jonathan is referring to. In the ACM DL, there are citation rates listed for each conference.

Here is CSCW: http://dl.acm.org/event.cfm?id=RE169 with 15.89 citations per article
Here is CHI: http://dl.acm.org/event.cfm?id=RE151 with 8.88
UIST: 16.40

CHI's rate is probably hurt by the adjunct proceedings, so you can go to specific proceedings.
UIST 07 722 citations http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=1294211 36 papers
(722 / 36) =	20.05555556
CHI 07 3797 http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=1240624 182 papers
(3797 / 182) =	20.86263736
CSCW 06 1079 http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=1180875 62 papers
(1079 / 62) =	17.40322581

So, maybe CSCW is the lowest, depite having an extra year because I chose an odd year.
Of course, you'd want to do every year for at least a decade.
The number of papers is from the hcibib, e.g., http://hcibib.org/UIST07

You could also look at downloads, which are reoprted on the ACM DL site.

Dear Ben,

Thanks for the list of journals. UMUAI is highly relevant and I have added the whole series.
I'll probably add VR and two others, but probably not Cognition, Technology and Work,
which may lack enough cognitive and/or computer content, but I have not yet given it
a good look. I am motivated to do it soon because as soon as springerlink updates its site,
all my scripts for gathering information will need repair.

I found 5-10 typos per volume in UMUAI, mostly adjacent words thatwere missingspaces between.
Nothing worth fixing, not that I've ever seen a site fix typos.

One of my favourite tweaks is to add erratum links to the error source. This one, however:
 	http://link.springer.com//article/10.1023/A%3A1017192119135
gave me nothing to work with. You can see them with:
 	http://hcibib.org/search:hcibib=umuai+erratum

Which brings me to another suggestion for springerlink. I think it might make sense to
show -- for free -- articles that have no listed author. These are usually editorial
content that make discussed content more enticing. For UMUAI, I should warn you,
it often includes book reviews, because the reviewer name is often missing (but easy
to find in the preview). Then there are (guest) editorial introductions to special
issues. These have titles like Preface to... and Introduction to..., but I woudl be
concerned that opening these up - just by title -- to free access would release original content
that people would be willing to pay for. Maybe
 	Preface/Introdution ... Special Issue
It works pretty well.
 	http://hcibib.org/search:hcibib={preface,introduction}+special+issue+umuai
I also noted quite a few "articles" called "Books Received", which were dutifully guarded:
 	http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/BF00143970
but I don't think that making them free would help sell anything. Finally, one obituary was open:
 	http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11257-008-9058-9
aand one was not:

In all, I added 304 "real" article records and reviews for UMUAI, out of the 385 advertised on:
