Hi Mara,

If I were you, I'd get to some conferences and work the job boards, maybe have an event.

CHI 2009 is in April in Boston:
 	http://www.chi2009.org/
 	Proceedings in the HCI BIB:
 		http://www.hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=proceedings&query=C.CHI.*&rectype=conferences
 	Papers in the HCI BIB:
 		http://www.hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=proceedings&query=C.CHI.*&rectype=papers

Less general, but still a top conference in the nearer future is CSCW 2008:
 	http://www.cscw2008.org/
 	Proceedings in the HCI BIB:
 		http://www.hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=proceedings&query=C.CSCW.*&rectype=conferences
 	Papers in the HCI BIB:
 		http://www.hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=proceedings&query=C.CSCW.*&rectype=papers
Also a possibility, and in just a few weeks:
 	http://www.acm.org/uist/uist2008/
 	Proceedings in the HCI BIB:
 		http://www.hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=proceedings&query=C.UIST.*&rectype=conferences
 	Papers in the HCI BIB:
 		http://www.hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=proceedings&query=C.UIST.*&rectype=papers
Personally, I would not recruit at these for what you are talking about,
but if you are in a rush and time and money are available, I'd check with
the organizers about the demographics of people who will attend and decide based on that.
I included links so that you can see what kind of papers are presented.

In advance, you could post to CHI-JOBS, which has a pretty large readership and is on topic:
 	http://listserv.acm.org/scripts/wa.exe?A0=CHI-JOBS

Also worth checking: http://www.upassoc.org/

That's my 10 minute advice. I don't think I would have much more with more effort.

Hi Vicky (I never knew your name was Vivien),

Yes, |STAT seems to run on the Mac. Both Linux and the Mac have given
this little-package-that-could some new life as it approaches 30 years old.
I don't have or know of any additional multidimensional software for the
Mac or PC, though.

I don't think it's necessary to credit a stat package in a research article
unless you publish the outputs, such as the graphics of pair and anova, and
I don't think anyone is gonig to do that!

I miss Arty and Donna. I should look them up.

Best wishes,

Gary

Bonjour de Montreal,

Have yet to make it out to The Rock, but that and NB are what's left on
my list of the 10 provinces to visit. Don't know if I'll ever make it
to the Territories.

I don'r know of any programs in your area, which is not to say there
are none. I checked the HFES site and found this:
 	http://www.hfes.org/Web/Students/grad_programs.html
Nothing in Eastern Canada, but a place to look for remote learning.
 	http://www.hfes.org/Web/EducationalResources/onlinecourses.html

I thought of the Usability Professionals Association:
 	http://upassoc.org/
but I did not find much that looked like accreditation. I found these:
 	http://www.bcpe.org/
 	http://www.ace-ergocanada.ca/index.php?contentid=142

Finally, about HFI. I have always found them to be very professional,
competent, and pretty friendly. I think they know all about certification.
A good choice for a practical approach. That's my impression from attending
talks and chatting at conferences, but nothing first-hand.

Hope this helps.

> Good day,

Based upon your expertise in the HCI field, I wonder if you might be
able to provide me with some guidance. I have been working with Websites
and usability testing procedures, attending usability conferences,
reading all the books etc. for over 10 years now. I was hoping to find
some way to supplement my experience with an "official" certification or
designation with some credible training in Human Computer
Interaction/Web Usability that does not require a prerequisite degree. I
have a Webmaster college diploma, and various training in other areas,
but not a university degree.

My search has completely boggled my mind! There are so many programs out
there, and it is quite difficult to weed out the scams from the credible
institutions. Does your institution provide any type of training (online
or intensive on location) or can you perhaps point me to one that does?

The closest I can find is Human Factors International
www.humanfactors.com <http://www.humanfactors.com/> , and would very
much appreciate your opinion on that if I might be so bold! :-)

Thank you in advance!

Necie
