I ordered a computer about a month ago. I received notice that it was
shipped on 2/5/99, but I have not received it. I drove out to the UPS
service center twice and they could not find the boxes. They did have a
scanner for me, which I have picked up, but which I do not want without
a computer. UPS claimed to have tried to deliver the boxes, but did not
leave any notice, and then they promized to send the boxes to my work,
but then they called to say they sent the boxes back to Gateway. Maybe,
UPS lost the shipment. I have tried in vain to reach my sales contact,
Von, or anyone else at Gateway.

I have informed VISA that I am disputing the charge for non-delivery.
Maybe that will get your attention and I will get some service.

I think you've sold me on Dell.

Further details on how UPS lost my computer and Gateway failed
to help me out:

Client ID 18956396
Sales rep VFB00
Invoice # 36537131
Order # 20112950
Order Date 02/03/99
Ship Date 02/05/99

2/09/99 UPS tried delivery of one box; left note
2/10/99 I went to UPS center; picked up one box (scanner)
no other boxes were part of the shipment, according to UPS
2/12/99 UPS called that there were 2 more packages after all
call Julie 614-870-4114 (or Janet before 3pm, Heide after)
called and grilled about how I got "this number"
UPS could not find boxes or records, but made it clear
that my problem was not her fault
2/14/99 called Gateway; spoke with Teresa 800-846-4510 x17218
Teresa will trace package and call me.
Teresa said I could get a rebate on freight and handling
	she never called back
2/16/99 went to UPS service center
	waited 25 minutes at UPS; they could not find boxes;
clerk explained how my problem was not her fault
clerk said that they had tried delivery instead of keeping boxes
(same thing happened to another customer there,
and the clerk was careful to explain how his problem was not her fault)
Clerk said the boxes were nearby and would have them in 5-10 minutes
I checked at home; no note was left by UPS
I had to leave at 5:30, 25 minutes after arriving
I called gateway at 6:30; left message at x17218
I called Von x17600 and got support group
support group got UPS person to trace boxes
UPS daid boxes were still on truck
(60 minutes after they were "5-10" minutes away)
UPS person at Gateway promised to deliver to my work on 2/17/99
OCLC, 6565 Frantz Road, Dublin, OH 43017
(Yah, OCLC has bought, what, over 1000 PC from Gateway?)
John at Gateway called at 7:30 with tracking numbers
		1Z234432025382 6144 and 6117
UPS called at 7:45 to say the boxes were sent back to Gateway
2/17/99 no computer at work
2/19/99 called 10-20 times; can't get through to 888#
or Von's # x17600 (group mailbox is full)
called 800-846-4208 (call center) & put on hold for 10 minutes
finally got personal service to connect me to a busy signal
2/22/99 called VISA to dispute charge
VISA transferred me to Gateway, after many menus, got busy signal
called VISA again at 6pm; put charge into dispute with William #32093
I do not need to pay bill while in dispute; call if there are charges
later tried to contact Gateway; put on hold for 30 minutes
	sent email

I think UPS lost the boxes and did nothing but mislead me
about what was going on. They were completely incompetent, rude,
and I suspect misleading me about trying deliveries.
Trying to get through to Gateway has been a huge frustration.
(Similar to the frustration I've had getting any service
at the Gateway Country store here in Columbus.)
Although I've enjoyed dealing with people at Gateway,
I've spent way too much time on this.
So, I'd like to know what you plan to do about this.

Not that I think anything will happen,
but I need to write this up for my VISA dispute.
