Re: November 1996 Monthly Report
      User Interface Section

I. Accomplishments

1. FirstSearch Web is now using the Newton Concentrator in production which
has put it*s search response time in line with the TTY.

2. Completed an html version of new draft RSDD Maintenance procedures. A
training session of the entire spectrum of install procedures is planned for
November 22. This will be presented jointly by RSDD and QA.

3. Completed a solution for ECO UCSF modifications (which is actually ECO
OhioLink at this time). Currently negotiating the viablility of this
solution with Marketing.

II. Projects

1. ECO

Negotiating OhioLink can try the solution in November.

IRP modifications were delayed due to changes in the algorithm by Jim
Feehan. When this is done the modifications should be complete within a
week or 2.

2. DataTimes

TTY unit testing is complete.

3. EBSCO Images

No Activity this month.

III. Administrative

+ All section members are OA*d.

+ Phil Norman has been assigned to the FirstSearch Performance Team which
will meet up to two times a week for up to 1.5 hours per meeting.
 Assignments will be given.

+ Performed several interviews but no offers have been made.

IV. Top Priorities

+ Fill open positions (SA II replacement and new PA position are approved).

+ Finalize the USCF modifications for ECO. Complete IRP changes for ECO.
Begin user interface analysis for integrating ECO/FirstSearch interfaces.

+ Continue work with SiteSearch 3.0 + patches. This version is promising in
terms of improvements in memory management and login response time.
However, it is not backwardly compatible (for our purposes) and we have had
problems with functional testing so we do not plan to install it with the
December maintenance. Ron is working with Lisa Cox to identify/resolve
problems, and with a team effort we still have a good chance for the January
maintenance.

+ Complete maintenance work instructions. Complete procedures for Emergency
and Support installs. Schedule any additional training if necessary.

+ Install the alpha IP address recognition software with the December
maintenance.

+ Complete DataTimes Web unit testing. Begin Integration testing phase.

+ Make changes to allow a database to be brought up on the Web but not in
the TTY (needed for World Almanac in December maintenance).

+ December 15th maintenance install.

Re: December 1996 Monthly Report
          User Interface Section

I. Accomplishments

1. Included alpha IP address recognition for FS/EJO Web in the December 22nd
install. This was substituted for the SiteSearch 3.0.5 changes which were
not ready for the December install.

2. Wrote Profile Server API changes and assisted in analysis, design,
coding, and testing of Profile Server changes to accomodate the writing of
simlog statistics for the December maintenance install.

3. Updated draft procedures for Maintenance, Emergency, and Support installs
and put them on the RSDD quality corporate web page. Maintenance procedures
have been reviewed by e-mail distribution and updated. Emergency and
Support procedures will be reviewed and updated by the end of December.
Although the work instructions are not all complete, approval of the
procedures may be possible.

II. Projects

1. ECO

OhioLink modifications are now frozen pending a technical review of the
specifications by OhioLink. There is currently no timeline for this review.

IRP modifications should be complete by the start of system test (12/22).

2. DataTimes

FS Web unit testing is complete. Integration test plan written.
 Integration testing is underway.

3. FirstSearch TTY Print

Reviewed Marketing User requirements.

4. EBSCO Images

No Activity this month.

III. Administrative

+ The FirstSearch Performance team has been brought up to date on the
hardware/software components of the system.

IV. Top Priorities

+ Fill open positions (SA II replacement and new PA position are approved).

+ January 26th maintenance install.

+ Continue work with SiteSearch 3.0.5. Progress is being made, and a
January release is still targeted, but it is not completely tested and new
problems are still being introduced. This is elevated in priority because
it offers significant reductions in memory and cpu usage which will be
needed for Spring peak.

+ Complete and review work instructions related to Maintenance, Emergency,
and Support Install procedures. Schedule any additional training if
necessary.

+ Complete DataTimes Integration testing. Begin System testing phase.

+ Complete user requirements analysis of FS TTY Print project. Determine
feasibility of automatic terminal type detection.

+ Participate in the LDR project user requirements analysis.

+ Continue to analyze and implement solutions for support and performance
problems.

In addition, I have accrued 6 other days of vacation (48 hours).
