Gary,
  Your job is to write
Schafer (superintendent, UA schools) about the fact that
the UA schools spring break in 2002 is scheduled for
OSU's first week of spring quarter, which would inconvenience
all the OSU/UA parents. He wrote back that they had no plans
to change it but he would "be listening for additional concerns that
are expressed concerning the scheduled date" to judge whether
there is need to recommend a change to the Board of Education.

I am writing all UA/OSU parents I know to say that if
you are concerned, please let him know:

  Dr. William Schaefer, Superintendent
  wschaefer@uaschools.org

Please pass on the word to any other OSU/UA parents
you know. Thanks-
  Caroline

Gary,

This sounds like a good idea. Please proceed and take the smaller dimension
to 4 inches. Let me know how much they are.

Thanks for all your assistance with the team.

Gary,

What a deal!!! Thanks!

I am thinking about organizing a game on Saturday morning so you could just
bring them with you at that time. Let me know if that works, otherwise I
can stop by your house.

Have a good day.

Christian

Hi Gary,
I just read your message this afternoon. I am at home and won't be at
school until next week, so I can not look at new kindergartener's
birthdates.

What I can tell you is that most parents send their children "on time".
Yes, we have always had some parents who hold their child out for an extra
year of pre-school. This choice is usually made because of
social/emotional development and not academics. How is George's
development socially and emotionally? Do you think he could relate well to
children a year older? Would you say that he is ready for a more formal
setting with more expectations and academic goals? More importantly, could
you see him going in to first grade a year from now? You have had Mark
here at Wickliffe so you know what to expect.

I am sure that you and Caroline have put a lot of thought in to this
decision but I thought I would ask these questions anyway. I could call
you next week when I come into school on Monday. I will be happy to answer
any questions of yours that I can at that time. If you would like to talk
to Dr. Burton, he is out of town and will be in again on Monday as well.

I am looking forward to talking with you.
Sincerely,
Jeannie Sperling
Wickliffe EIS

Hi Jeannie,

We've decided to not accelerate George.
We based our decision primarily on
George's current emotional readiness,
which made the decision easier than
thinking about implications one,
five, and ten years from now.

Everyone was very helpful and encouraging
and suggested good questions to think
about, although for almost all the
questions, we thought George was ready
for a more formal setting, entering
first grade in a year, and so on.
But we didn't feel he was ready.

George will be at Burbank, where he
will be in a stimulating environment,
and have a lot of fun. So we are happy.

Thank you again for your help.
